The last-day laundry problem
You checked out at noon. The flight's tonight. On the balcony there's a towel that hasn't dried since yesterday and the swimsuit from your farewell swim. In September and October, with humidity often around 85–90%, nothing dries overnight.
Pack it like that and it comes out at home smelling sour, along with everything it touched. Not the souvenir you were after.
Work backwards from the flight
- Departure time. It's on your booking.
- Airport arrival. Follow your airline's advice; international flights usually need more time than domestic.
- Getting there. Ask your hotel or driver how long the transfer takes, and add a buffer if it's raining.
- Clothes back in hand. Leave yourself at least an hour to pack.
- Drop-off. Subtract 1–2 hours for express or 3–4 hours for standard, counted from when we receive the bag.
Example: noon checkout, evening flight
Say you check out at 12pm, fly at 9pm, and plan to head to the airport around 6pm.
- Relaxed (standard): book a hotel pickup for 11am, before checkout. It's ready around 2–3pm and we bring it back to the hotel, or you swing by the shop. Cheaper, with plenty of slack.
- One last swim (express): drop off around 2pm, and it's ready around 3–4pm, swimsuit included.
Most hotels will hold your luggage after checkout. Ask reception whether your laundry can be delivered there.
Late-night flights
Plenty of flights off the island leave late. Pickup and delivery run 8am to 10pm, but the shop itself is open 24/7. Walk in with your bag at 11pm or 2am and pay the same as daytime. While you wait, there's a mini mart inside for water and snacks for the flight.
Packing it all back in
- Keep your travel outfit in a separate bag on top.
- Lay folded clothes flat in layers, heavier pieces at the bottom.
- Only pack swimwear once it's properly dry.
- Leave "dry clean only" items, suits, wool and silk out of the laundry bag. We do water wash and tumble dry, not dry cleaning.
