Where to stay in Phu Quoc comes down to how you want to spend your days. For food, the night market and lower prices, stay in Duong Dong. For an easy first trip, pick Long Beach. Couples after quiet sunsets tend to love Ong Lang. If boat trips are the main event, base yourself in the south near An Thoi. Families heading to VinWonders and the Safari are best off in the north.
The island is roughly 50 km from top to bottom, and there is no island-wide public bus. Pick the wrong base and you can spend an hour a day just getting around. Here is what each area actually feels like.
Duong Dong: the island's everyday heart
Duong Dong is the main town, halfway down the west coast. In the evening the night market on Bach Dang Street runs from around 6 pm until close to midnight, busiest between 7:30 and 10:30. Around it you'll find local restaurants, pharmacies, banks, laundries and everything else a town needs.
It suits solo travellers, groups of friends and anyone on a budget, since guesthouses here are the cheapest on the island. The trade-off: the town beach isn't the island's best, and the streets can be noisy.
Long Beach: the safe choice for a first visit
Long Beach (Bai Truong) stretches south from Duong Dong and has the island's biggest spread of places to stay, from simple bungalows to big resorts. The night market and the airport are both close, and many tours pick up along this strip.
If you really can't decide, Long Beach is the choice you're least likely to regret. Just expect a busier shoreline in high season, and water that's less clear than the southern beaches.
Ong Lang: green, quiet, great sunsets
About 15 minutes' drive north of Duong Dong, Ong Lang is far more spread out, with small resorts tucked into gardens. It's ideal for couples or anyone who wants a proper rest. The downside is fewer places to eat after dark, and you'll need transport for almost everything.
The south and An Thoi: close to the boats

The south is home to An Thoi harbour, where most speedboat, snorkelling and island-hopping trips leave from, plus the Hon Thom cable car and Sunset Town. If your plans revolve around the sea, staying here saves a long drive every morning. You'll trade that for less local life and a longer trip into Duong Dong.
The north and Ganh Dau: made for families
The north has VinWonders, Vinpearl Safari and Grand World, along with large resorts built around them. Kids will be happy. Further up, Ganh Dau is a small fishing village where you can eat seafood on plastic chairs and look across the water to Cambodia. Peaceful, but far from town and short on convenience stores.
A few booking tips
- Count your boat days first. Two trips to the southern islands are much easier from Long Beach or the south than from the north.
- Staying a week or more? Consider splitting it: a few nights in Duong Dong for food and energy, a few somewhere quiet to switch off.
- The further from town you stay, the more worth it to ask ahead about laundry, transfers and kitchen closing times.
Staying around Duong Dong makes mid-trip laundry simple: NightGo Laundry is right in town, open 24/7, with pickup and delivery for nearby hotels.
